Background

Acknowledgement of Country

The Healing Foundation acknowledges Country, Custodians and Community of the lands on which we live and work. We also pay our respects to Elders and to Stolen Generations survivors, of the Dreaming and of the here and now. We recognise the ongoing nature of trauma experiences for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and commit each day to survivor-led intergenerational healing.

Warning: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people should be aware that this website may contain images, voices and names of people who have passed away.

Gathering strength: Evaluation of the Collective Healing Grants 2022–2026

This evaluation of The Healing Foundation’s Collective Healing Grants shows how culturally led, community-controlled initiatives are supporting Stolen Generations survivors, families and descendants across Australia. Since 2012, the program has distributed more than $6.1 million to 56 organisations for 138 initiatives, enabling healing gatherings, cultural connection, truth-telling and the preservation of survivor stories. The 2022–2026 evaluation found strong evidence that these flexible grants build confidence, belonging, pride, intergenerational understanding and organisational capability, while highlighting the need for sustained, multi-year investment to reach more communities and support the long-term work of Stolen Generations Organisations.

Research Snapshot—Evaluation of Collective Healing Grants

The Healing Foundation's Collective Healing Grants are delivering meaningful, survivor-led healing for Stolen Generations survivors, their families and descendants. Over 14 years, more than $6.1 million has supported 56 organisations and 138 initiatives, strengthening access to culturally safe support, truth-telling, connection and wellbeing. The evaluation found that these community-controlled approaches build confidence for survivors to share their stories, deepen families’ understanding of their histories, strengthen cultural identity and increase organisational capability. UN Rapporteur 2026 Visit Submission

This submission responds to the United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Call for Input ahead of the proposed country visit to Australia in 2026. It examines the ongoing impacts of the forced removal of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and the unfinished business of the Bringing them Home report and its recommendations. We call for urgent action to embed UNDRIP in law, policy, and service delivery, to ensure survivors, their families, and communities are supported to heal with dignity, justice, and self-determination.
